- The Ellen DeGeneres Show is allegedly struggling to book A-list guests, per sources who spoke to BuzzFeed News.
- FYI, one source close to the show maintains there is “no difficulty booking talent.”
The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been back on the air since September, following a summer of toxic work environment allegations and an internal investigation. But it looks like the show might be having problems bouncing back.
BuzzFeed News spoke to sources “with knowledge of the situation” who claim that the show is struggling to book its usual slate of A-list guests, and that its losing ratings and advertisers—which cuts into its ability to make content. “We’re trying to be a content house, but we have no content,” one employee said.
In terms of guests, sources said the show is having a hard time getting big names, and industry publicists told BuzzFeed News that their clients are wary of being part of Ellen’s “comeback tour.”
“I wouldn’t set up anyone on her show right now to do anything that could possibly cause them more negative headlines,” one anonymous publicist said. “You have to tread so carefully with your clients and your clients’ reputations, so you don’t want to put your client in any line of fire sympathizing with someone that any community or anyone would feel bad about. We’re not going to align anyone with Ellen.”
While one source “close to the show” said that there’s been “no difficulty booking talent,” another publicist said “The feedback we’ve been getting is that Ellen is no longer a first choice for talent.”
