- Kate William and Prince William are facing backlash for their royal train tour.
- Multiple ministers have spoken out about the “unnecessary” visits and “restrictions” in place.
Kate William and Prince William are currently on a royal train tour of the United Kingdom, where they’re paying thanks to essential workers and volunteers who are working so hard during this pandemic. And while the tour is obviously being conducted with safety in mind (Kate and William have been pretty consistent about their mask use…aside from in the below pics…), some ministers seem less than pleased that they’re breaking travel restrictions.
And by that I mean Wales’ health minister Vaughan Gething, who said “I’d rather no one was having unnecessary visits. And people always have divisive views about the monarchy, but their visit isn’t an excuse for people to say that they are confused about what they are being asked to do.”

Meanwhile, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also seemed pretty displeased, saying “The Scottish Government was advised about the intention to visit, and we made sure that the Royal Household were aware, as you would expect, of the restrictions in place in Scotland so that could inform both the decision and the planning of the visit.”
She added, “The Royal visit is a matter for the Royal household and the arrangements around it, and any questions about those arrangements, should be directed to the Royal household.”
